Framing the Sun: Sunrise Through the Folly Tower
Visited the Folly Tower this morning. My first day of vacation. No better way to start it than sunrise up the Folly.
Despite a little cloud on the eastern horizon, I was very fortunate that it did not spoil the show. There was a lovely orange glow in the sky, heralding the dawn's imminent arrival.
On this occasion, I wanted to frame the sun using the Folly Towers parapet ( wall at the top of the tower) and Merlons (That's the name of the raised sections) - the combination is called a crenellation.
Obviously, I am not tall enough to see over them from the ground, so I needed to use my drone.
For sunrise pictures, I usually bring the DJI2S drone along as it has a better image sensor that copes with low light conditions.
Dawn did not disappoint me, and the sun rose above the eastern horizon just below the cloud above it. I had my drone in the air in readiness and began by taking some panoramic pictures before moving in closer to the Folly.
Everything worked out as planned. I had to work quickly as I knew that the sun would keep rising and would move behind the layer of clouds, so I had a small window of opportunity.
I am really pleased with the results, and this was a super start to my time off from work.
