Trostra Common Wood

I am back to doing some blogging again and I certainly have a lot of writing to catch up on. Following on from my previous posts I continued to work on my Autumn project and have throughly enjoyed walking in my local woods where I am really fortunate to have an amazing Beech Wood practically on my doorstep.

Trosta Common is situated in Monmouthshire very close to its border with New Inn that is in Torfaen. The common has a footpath in it that is part of Llandegfedd circular walk. The first part of the wood consists mainly of old oak trees but as you walk away from the farm down the steep hill the path leads to a small  spectacular Beech Tree wood. Looking up inside its like being in natures very own cathedral. Indeed gothic architecture often seen in churches and cathedrals is said to have been inspired by nature and ancient woodlands.

The leaves of the Beech Trees had turned a beautiful golden colour and contrasted wonderfully against the dark colours of the trunks and red carpet of shed leaves.

I stood in wonder and awe at mother natures creations.

As I walked along a carpet of shed leaves I noticed something small and white pocking up.

I knelt down , looked closer and found that it was a small Parasol mushroom growing from a piece of dead wood.

I don't do a great deal of macro photography these days but this was a good opportunity. Once again I was only carrying my iPhone 13 and I think the above photo shows how versatile and capable these days mobile cameras are.
